  • Hiking and cycling in Macin Mountains

The Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — is one of Europe’s last truly wild frontiers. More than half of its vast territory remains untouched and remote, sheltering over 5,500 species of flora and fauna. This is the third largest biosphere reserve in the world, and a paradise for nature lovers, photographers, and those seeking silence and authenticity.

Nearby, the Macin Mountains, the oldest in Europe, rise gently over Dobrogea’s plains, carrying traces of ancient cultures — Greek, Roman, Ottoman, and more — layered through time like whispers in the wind.

This journey combines cycling, hiking and boating, offering a rare opportunity to discover both the wild natural beauty and the cultural, historical richness of the region. You’ll pedal through serene villages, taste traditional fish dishes from so many ethnic cultures, and drift quietly among pelicans and reeds — where the Danube finally meets the sea.

The most convenient arrival point is Bucharest International Airport.
Please share your flight details with the tour operator in advance so that we can coordinate suitable transfer arrangements for your arrival and departure.

MEETING DAY:

Upon arrival, participants will receive a briefing on the program, practical information, and an introduction to local customs. You’ll also receive your travel kit (map, equipment, bicycle, etc.).
Our guides will ensure that all participants meet the tour’s terms and conditions before departure.

If any participant is unable to arrive at the designated meeting point and time, it is their responsibility to rejoin the group according to CarpatBike’s terms and conditions. Our team will, of course, provide assistance to help locate and reach the group as quickly as possible.

Because of the logistical arrangements and travel distance on the first day, cycling activities will be limited. Depending on the schedule, we may enjoy a short local ride, a city visit, or nearby sightseeing instead.
