This tour takes you along country roads and pastoral landscapes far from the crowded routes, on flat terrain, unpaved country trails, up and downhill trails enjoying the incredible Transylvanian scenery. You will experience four wonderful cycling days mixed with an extraordinary culinary and cultural experience.
You will pass historic architecture, preserved since the Middle Ages. You will visit UNESCO World Heritage fortified churches, castles, remote villages, and even the medieval city of Sibiu, named the Cultural Capitial of Europe in 2007. The landscape is a mosaic of oak and beech forests, rich meadows and pastures. The small Transylvanian villages centered around fortified churches are still keeping the same level of civilization.

Day by day
Arrive in Brasov from noon onward. Optional morning transfer from Bucharest includes a visit to Peles Castle, the former royal summer residence. After settling in, meet your guide for a trip briefing and bike fitting, then enjoy a stroll through Brasov’s charming old town and its iconic Black Church.

After breakfast, cycle 50 km from Brasov through Sanpetru, Bod, and along the Olt River to Miclosoara. Visit Count Kalnoky’s 13th-century castle, then stay overnight in his restored guesthouses — charming 19th-century cottages once visited by King Charles III.

Cycling: 50 km, flat paved terrain, 110 m ascent
After a medieval evening and a hearty breakfast, continue cycling along the Olt River toward Viscri. You can choose a longer scenic route via Talisoara and Rupea or a shorter one through Jimbor and Baile Homorod. Stop in Rupea for lunch and visit its hilltop fortress before riding on to Viscri — a UNESCO-listed Saxon village famed for its 12th-century fortified church, whitewashed houses, and vibrant crafts. Stay in a charming restored guesthouse, explore local workshops, and watch the cows return at dusk — a timeless Transylvanian scene.

Cycling: 68 km, 400 m ascent
Leave Viscri and ride 15 km of rolling paved road to Jibert, then cross an 8 km forest hill to Cobor — a tough but spectacular climb. In Cobor, visit a biodiversity farm with horses and cattle and enjoy an organic lunch. Continue 10 km on gravel, then follow smooth roads to Cincsor. Stay in the beautifully restored former parish house, dine in a converted barn, and unwind in the garden or library.

Cycling: 52 km (mixed gravel and paved), 470 m ascent, 600 m descent
Ride from Cincsor to Sighisoara on a fully paved 68 km route via Dealu Frumos and Agnita. Explore Sighisoara’s UNESCO-listed medieval citadel — the best-preserved and still-inhabited fortress in Transylvania.
Optional - Stay overnight in the old town and enjoy dinner at your leisure.

Meeting and departure:
How to get there:
We suggest that you arrive at one day prior to the trip start, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays. We recommend that you fly into Bucharest or Sibiu airports. Travel time between Bucharest and Brasov is approximately 3 hours. On a weekday, there are 5-8 good trains per day traveling from Bucharest to Brasov and the ticket price ranges from 20-35 EUR/person.
For the return trip from Sighisoara, there are a few trains per day to Bucharest. Please ask tour consultant for specific details and advance bookings.
Please inform the tour company on your flight schedule to advise for appropriate transfer times for meeting and departure.
Terrain:
This tour includes national, local, village, and forest roads through pastoral landscapes and peaceful Transylvanian scenery. The terrain includes flat asphalt routes, unpaved country hilly trails, and rolling hills and is suitable for cyclists in good physical condition, varying from 30 to 60 km per day.
On this tour, 10% of the riding is on dedicated bike paths, 60% is on quiet roads with little traffic, and 30 % on roads shared with traffic.
This tour is manageable for participants of various ages and would be a fun tour for a family (minimum age 10 recommended) or first-time bike tourists.

We have prepared for you accommodation in beautifully restored medieval castles or Saxon guesthouses preserved since Medieval times.
