Discover one of Europe’s most idyllic places to live
Classic / Cultural / Easy / Transylvania

Overview

Sibiu is one of the most important cultural cities of Romania and was designated the European Capital of Culture for the year 2007, along with the city of Luxembourg.

Formerly the center of the Transylvanian Saxons, the old city of Sibiu was ranked as “Europe’s 8th most idyllic place to live” by Forbes. Since 2007, Sibiu has obviously become one of the most popular cities in Romania. The cultural life is the most valuable attraction, while the historical and architectural urban landscapes are definitely an example of well preserved Medieval architecture.

Ideal to explore by bike are the landmark buildings of great cultural interest and the places full of charm that tell us of the past history of this area and their people. Our short tour will include a mixture of history, culture and the green landscapes of this beautiful place.

Located some 215 km north-west of Bucharest, Sibiu (Hermannstadt) is one of the seven fortified cities in Transylvania, forming the Saxon fortified network “Siebenburgen” – the foundation of Saxon society. Nowadays, the old city is focusing on the cultural life, while the hilly surroundings are suitable for outdoor adventure. This mixture is a successful recipe for the local tourism.

On the other hand, its geographical position in Romania makes it one of the most important transportation hubs in Romania with important roads and railway lines passing through it.
