In Magura we will have a picnic or home hosted lunch and then we will follow another path to descend to Moieciu or back to Pestera village where we started our hike. The second part is following two small rivers, but also pastoral meadows with a great variety of flowers and butterflies. We continue through the old quarter to reach the town square, surrounded by Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque buildings, where we will take lunch before visiting the Gothic 'Black Church' with its world-famous Buchholz organ and a rare collection of oriental carpets brought back from trading missions to the Ottoman Empire. After lunch, we will be transferred by car to Viscri village (1,5 hours drive). The little village became famous when Prince Charles of Wales decided to buy a property here, as part of a bigger project to promote the traditional Saxon life. If we still have time before dinner we may enjoy a visit to the local bricklayer or felt slippers workshop and admire the hundreds cows as they wander along the streets and pass into their driveways as they return home from the pastures.

Today we start with an amazing and easy walk through the forested hills with wonderful views of the lush countryside of Saxon Transylvania. After a moderate walk of about 3-4 hours we will reach the secluded village of Mesendorf where our hosts will invite for some cheese tasting from the local farm and a local lunch. We continue our route to Sighisoara, again a UNESCO site, an old Saxon city, which is part of the “Siebenburgen” – the seven fortified cities network built in the 14th century by the Saxons colonists. Currently, it is one of the few medieval citadels still inhabited. We will explore the open squares and winding alleyways, admiring the medieval church, the Patrician houses and the guild towers (along with the famous clock tower). Late afternoon, a 40 minutes transfer takes us to the remote village of Cund and our rural hotel. The old traditional Saxon houses have been renovated, bringing a luxurious level to this hidden part of the world while, at the same time maintaining the harmony of local traditions. We’ll have dinner at the Valea Verde restaurant tonight, with our host Jonas Schaefer.
